Day 81: A Work In Progress

Stop beating yourself up ! You are a work in progress, which means you get there a little at a time, not all at once.
Wiser words have never been spoken ! I am an expert at beating myself up – I’ve done it for years ! Since 2019 is a year of change this is one of the things I’m changing. I’ve put much of the past 20 years behind me and my eyes are focused on the road ahead. There’s a difference between keeping yourself accountable and beating yourself up when things don’t go quite as planned. I no longer have a mental list of all the things “I should” have done. It’s been replaced with a list of things I have done and things I will do. I’m still working on setting reasonable goals that have some flexibility. If you’ve been reading these notes then you know I struggled with setting a reasonable exercise goal. Expecting myself to exercise every single day was unreasonable because life is going to get in your way at least once a week and once it does your goal is blown and disappointment sets in. Expecting myself to exercise on certain days of the week was also unreasonable because again, life will get in the way at least once. Again, goal blown and disappointment. So I settled on exercising as many days a week as I can. I found iFit workouts I truly enjoy and the 30 minute commitment is completely reasonable. Maybe that’s an “easy” goal but when you’ve never stuck with anything for very long it is a start. Baby steps. The first bump in the road was always the end of anything I tried to do. I’m a little ticked off today because I am coming down with another cold ! I have no one to blame but myself - I never did start taking my vitamins again after my last cold. So I’m not working out tonight. I’m going to take a shower and go to bed.
Breakfast today was a 3.6 ounce 150 calorie Canadian Style Turkey Bacon, Egg And Cheese Muffin. These are a little flavorless but after eating so little yesterday I needed a hearty breakfast. Power Fuel was a 100 calorie string cheese. I had hazelnut and breakfast blend coffee with it. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4.3 ounce 240 calorie southwest fiesta melt. Had raw carrots and cottage cheese (90 calories) with it. Afternoon snack was 3 wedges of Laughing Cow cheese and reduced fat wheat thins (90 calories). Dinner was a 9.5 ounce 270 calorie roasted turkey medallions with mashed potatoes and gravy. I love this entree - could eat it every night ! I had a Smart Carb left from my morning snack so I threw in a veggie cake (90 calories) to simulate stuffing. My evening snack is going to be a 1.9 ounce 12 calorie tiramisu. My calories are at close to 1400 so I did good today ! Slacked on the water but oh well.
It spite of the blue skies and sunshine it didn’t get very warm today. It was 20 when I went to work and we were only in the mid 30’s when I left to come home. We had a little dusting of snow last night too ! The only good thing about the cold is there was no snow melt ... so there was no road spray to dirty up my nice clean car !
