Day 18: Life Changing
Today was a life changing day for the associates in my office. It was their deadline to decide if they are leaving the payroll or moving to Florida to continue working for AT&T. A big decision to make in only 2 weeks. For some it was an easy decision but many others are struggling. Some are going happily, others because they feel like they have no other choice. Of those who decide to stay in Syracuse, some will likely question the wisdom of their decision, others will perhaps regret it and some will be perfectly fine with their choice. No matter what they chose, I hope they will all have peace once this day passes and their path is clear. We managers won’t know anything for 30-45 days but I doubt they will keep any of us. I am preparing myself for that eventuality but I will gladly stay if they ask me to.
Today was brutally cold (-3 at 9 am) and it snowed lightly most of the day, so I was glad to be home on the couch. I wasn’t feeling 100% this morning but that passed. I think my body is still getting used to this new way of eating. It misses all that fat and sugar ! It’s going to be bitter cold tonight but by Wednesday it’ll be near 40 degrees ... crazy ! My pipes made it through last nights sub-zero temps so even though the low for tonight is -9 I’m not really worried.
Breakfast today was a 2.5 ounce 160 calorie package of waffles. I topped them with peanut butter and they were delicious ! I never realized peanut butter had so many calories - 190 in 2 tablespoons - but that was my PowerFuel with the morning meal. I also had 2 cups of coffee. I would have loved to have some hot chocolate on a day like today but alas, that is all sugar and not really a good idea. Morning snack was the usual shake and lunch was a 4.3 ounce 240 calorie southwest fiesta melt. I added salsa and it was delicious. I also had green beans. My afternoon snack was a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and some raw carrots. Dinner tonight was a 7.2 ounce 270 calorie chicken parmesan with pasta. I had the rest of the green beans with it. I still have 433 calories available so I will have a snack before I go to bed. Today I did good with the veggies but not so much with the water. That is still a struggle.
I don’t think the temp was higher than 8 degrees today ! I lost my satellite signal this afternoon, first time since it was installed. Just had to tap the dish to get the snow off and I was good to go. Fortunately I was able to open the porch window and do it from there - nice not to have to go outside and wade thru the snow ! My plow guy plowed the driveway again today so I’ll have no trouble getting out in the morning. I really can’t wait for winter to be over - the older I get the more I hate the cold. However, I don’t hate it enough to pack up and move south ! When I actually do “retire” I’ll be happy to stay in all winter ! The nice thing about the village of Mexico is it has everything you need - 2 gas stations, drug store, grocery store, McDonald’s, Dollar General, pizza, chinese, Subway and Dunkin ! So if the weather is bad you don’t have to go far to get the necessities and you won’t starve !
